Rules for Riding

Riders have responsibilities. The following rules and carry on policy are enforced by Lane Transit District (LTD) and carry a penalty of up to $250 and/or exclusion from the transit system. For a comprehensive list of rules, read Ordinance 36 .

Personal Items
Items brought on board must fit within the rider’s personal seating area, be clean, and not create a sanitary issue such as a leaking bag. Personal items include luggage, shopping bags, backpacks, and packages.

Valid Fare Required
Have valid fare ready when boarding all LTD buses including EmX.

Be Courteous
Priority Seating is reserved for older adults and people with disabilities.

Wheeled Carts & Totes
Only two- or four-wheeled carts that do not exceed 18 inches in width, 18 inches in depth, or 30 inches in height are permitted, excluding wheels and handles.

Shoes & Shirts Required
Proper attire (shoes, shirts, etc.) must be worn at all times.

Strollers
Unfolded strollers containing a child are allowed. Strollers without a child should be collapsed. Large and double-wide strollers are not practical on buses, so small foldable strollers are recommended. Please make sure your stroller doesn’t block the aisle or doorway.

Keep Pets in a Carrier
Pets must be kept in an approved carrier. Service animals must sit under the rider’s seat at their feet. All animals riding the bus are expected to behave well, with no barking, biting, aggression or accidents.

Food & Drinks
No eating on the bus. Keep food and drinks in sealed, approved containers. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited.

Do Not Block Aisles and Doors
Personal belongings should not block the aisle or doorways. If standing, step aside so others may board.

No Smoking
Smoking cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and other vapor emitting devices is prohibited on LTD property, including buses, bus stops and transit stations.

Have a Destination
Sleeping on the bus and/or riding with no destination is prohibited.

No Wagons
The aisle and doorways must be kept clear for the smooth entry and exit of passengers.

Do Not Threaten
It is unlawful to threaten the safety of a rider or bus operator or interfere with the movement of a bus.

No Excessive Noise
When talking or using a cell phone, speak at a reasonable volume. Use electronics quietly with headphones.
Access & Reasonable Modifications
LTD is committed to providing services that are accessible and help maintain independence for passengers. People with disabilities may request a change or modification to a policy, practice, or procedure if it allows them to have equitable access to LTD programs, services and activities. While there is no guarantee, LTD will review requests and if reasonable, they will be accommodated. To request a modification or to find out more, contact LTD Customer Service at 541-682-5555.
