Electric Buses On Schedule For Delivery
Lane Transit District (LTD) expects delivery of 19 new all-electric buses from New Flyer of America beginning in 2022.
"Despite supply chain challenges in manufacturing, LTD plans to receive delivery of 19 all-electric buses by Fall 2022," said LTD’s General Manager Aurora Jackson. “This is good news. By Winter 2022, LTD plans to have 30 all-electric buses in full operation, keeping the District ahead of its goals to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions while also supporting the City of Eugene and Lane County’s climate action initiatives.”
In December 2020, LTD began integrating the first 11 all-electric buses into its aging fleet. Then in April 2021, the LTD Board of Directors voted to replace 19 more diesel-fueled buses with all-electric models.
The electric bus purchases reflect LTD’s continued commitment to replace its aging fossil-fueled fleet with zero-emission vehicles. Approved by the District’s Board of Directors, LTD’s Climate Action Policy and Fleet Procurement Plan call for the reduction of the District’s greenhouse gas emissions while fulfilling its mission to provide clean, reliable, convenient transportation options for the Eugene-Springfield metro area and surrounding communities.
The cost for the 19 Xcelsior CHARGE™ battery-electric 40-foot heavy-duty transit buses from New Flyer, including ABB depot chargers to support electric bus infrastructure, is $18.7 million, with funding provided by the state of Oregon and Federal Transit Administration.
