Lane Transit District will offer riders another convenient option to pay for bus fares. The TouchPass tap card will be available to riders on Monday, October 21, 2019.
The TouchPass tap card can be purchased at the LTD Customer Service Center at 1080 Willamette Street for $3. The tap card is free to LTD’s Honored and Half-Fare Riders. After purchasing the tap card, riders will go to TouchPass.com to create an account and then purchase a monthly bus pass or add funds to their Stored Value account.
Using the TouchPass tap card is easy. After creating an account and buying a pass, LTD bus riders will swipe the tap card across the TouchPass reader located next to the fare box on all LTD buses, except EmX. The TouchPass reader will deduct the fare from the card. Unused paid fares are stored on the tap card for future use. When using the Stored Value feature, riders can pay fare as they ride with day and monthly fare capping when the cost for that fare is reached.
The TouchPass tap card is part the TouchPass program that LTD introduced in August 2019. LTD riders can choose to use the tap card or the TouchPass app to purchase and manage their fare. However, riders using the TouchPass program must choose either the tap card or the mobile app when purchasing fare.
“The goal for the TouchPass program is to make riding the bus more convenient by making boarding time faster, ensuring fare accountability, and providing anonymized ridership data to be used for transit service planning purposes only,” said Cosette Rees, LTD’s director of customer and specialized services. “By the end of 2019, we expect all riders buying a monthly pass to transfer from paper passes to the tap card or the app.”
