LTD Signs Federal Pledge to Combat Human Trafficking
Lane Transit District’s (LTD) Chief Executive Officer Jameson T. Auten has signed the Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking (TLAHT) pledge to combat human trafficking in the transportation sector.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s TLAHT initiative is made up of transportation and travel industry stakeholders working together to maximize their collective impact in combating human trafficking. By signing, LTD joins the ranks of hundreds of companies and organizations like Alaska Airlines, American Public Transportation Association, Port of Portland, and Amtrak.
The U.S. Department of Justice estimates 25 million people worldwide have been sold into prostitution, domestic servitude, or other forced labor. The expansive transportation network in the U.S. is used to commit these crimes.
“This pledge is a reminder that we have to be vigilant at our stations, and on our roads and buses,” said Auten. “LTD has a unique opportunity to educate our community on recognizing the signs of human trafficking and to help keep our area safer.”
With this pledge, LTD commits to educating its employees on how to recognize and report signs of human trafficking, and to raising public awareness on trafficking issues in targeted outreach campaigns.
TLAHT focuses on five key areas including industry leadership and policy development, with the belief that by working together, the transportation sector will see greater progress in reaching the ultimate goal of eliminating human trafficking.
