LTD Invites Passengers to Smile
September 28, 2021
Lane Transit District (LTD) is smiling and the District’s bus operators and staff want the community to smile, too.
To celebrate World Smile Day on Oct. 1, 2021, LTD bus operators and staff will wear smiley face masks over their noses and mouths.
“The idea is for everyone to intentionally take a moment to smile at each other to acknowledge the challenges and opportunities that we have faced together as one community over the past few years,” said Cammie Harris, the LTD Marketing Representative coordinating the District’s Smile Day initiative. “The smiley face masks we wear on October 1, makes smiling easy.”
Harvey Bell, a Massachusetts graphic designer, created the smiley face in 1963. He organized the first World Smile Day in 1999. Bell believed that everyone should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout the world. After his death in 2001, the Harvey Bell World Smile Day Foundation was established to honor him through an annual sponsorship of World Smile Day®.
Complete bus schedules and maps are available on the LTD website.
As a reminder, Federal regulations require that everyone wear a mask over the nose and mouth when on public transit property and while on a public bus.
